9 Photography Gold Coast Locations Every Photographer Will Love

November 18, 2025 by julia

If there is one thing I know more about, it’s the Gold Coast. I am so grateful that I get to call this my hometown, the place that created my passion and love for photography. It truly is a photographer’s paradise with a mix of sparkling coastlines, lush hinterland, vibrant cityscapes, and buzzing local culture. If you’re searching for the best spots for photography Gold Coast, this guide will take you through 9 unforgettable locations that every photographer will fall in love with.

7 Photography Gold Coast Locations

1. Burleigh Heads

Burleigh Heads offers you a range of unique perspectives of the Gold Coast. North Burleigh headland provides you with stunning views of Surfers Paradise and all the skyscrapers along the ocean’s edge. At the same time, Burleigh Heads is great for capturing surfers in action and finding wildlife in the national park. My favourite time of day to shoot here is definitely sunrise. It’s a beautiful spot to capture the sunrise through the trees and around the rocks. If you are looking for a different perspective, get close to the water and capture the colours of the sky through the ocean waves.

2. Snapper Rocks

Snapper Rocks is one of the only areas where you can actually watch the sunset from the beach. Because the sun sets in the west and our beaches face east, it can be tricky to find a spot to watch the sun actually go down. This is why I love Snapper Rocks. Snapper offers clear turquoise waters and epic surf breaks, perfect for drone photography, sunrise or sunset and surf photography. Head up to Greenmount Headland or Point Danger for a different perspective of Snapper Rocks. This is definitely one of my favourite photography Gold Coast Destinations.

Photography Gold Coast – Tips!

Drone-Friendly Views:
The Gold Coast’s sweeping coastline and elevated lookouts make it one of Australia’s most photogenic regions for aerial photography. Beaches, headlands, and hinterland viewpoints offer incredible symmetry and patterns from above. Just remember to check CASA rules before you fly, stay aware of no-fly zones, and be mindful of crowds, especially around busy beaches and events.

Weather Bonus:
If you’re visiting in summer, keep your camera ready; afternoon storms often roll in dramatically, delivering moody clouds, lightning displays, and fiery post-storm sunsets. These fast-changing conditions can turn an ordinary scene into something extraordinary, especially when shooting from the coastline or high viewpoints with clear visibility.

Use Reflections to Your Advantage:

Wet sand at sunrise creates natural mirror effects.

Calm canals around Mermaid Waters, Bundall, and Chevron Island are perfect for glassy reflections of the skyline.

Shoot During Weekdays:

Beaches and hotspots are quieter, making it easier to shoot long exposures and drone footage without crowds.

Stay Safe With Your Gear:

Salt spray can damage cameras—carry a microfiber cloth and wipe regularly.

Keep an eye on waves, especially around rocks and headlands.

Always secure your tripod in windy conditions.
