More to Oslob than just Whale Sharks!
Oslob is a small coast town in Cebu, Mostly famous for its well know for being the best place to swim with whale sharks. But there is plenty to do and see in Oslob and in neighbouring areas, For the last part of the trip we decided to splash out and treat ourselves to a nice resort and it was well worth it.
We stayed at https://www.granadabeachhouse.ph if you are looking for somewhere nice to stay in Oslob I definitely recommend staying here, especially if you plan to relax by the pool and sip cocktails for some part of your trip.
TOP THINGS TO DO IN OSLOB
Kawasan Falls - This is one of the most popular waterfalls in the Philippines and it is definitely full of tourists but recommend visiting here in the early hours if you want less tourists around. It is definitely worth visiting and having a swim, the walk to and from is quite nice also and there are a few spots you can spot for a swim at.
Canyoneering - Honestly I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I agreed to go canyoneering but it was definitely an adventure of a lifetime and I am so glad I did it now! If you love jumping off bridges and rocks you will definitely love this then.
Swimming with the Whale Sharks - Swimming next to whale sharks was definitely one of the most memorable moments in my life. I understand that some people are against it for the welfare of the animals and I totally agree in some ways, The whale sharks are free to come and go whenever they like. The organisation do have a lone way to go before being considered eco friendly and they do have an environmental team working on this. There are strong laws around the whale sharks as touching a whale shark is a criminal offence that results in a huge fine or jail time. I definitely recommend this experience but try and do it in the safest way possible for you and the whale sharks. Try and go early as possible to miss the crowds and be conscious of where you are swimming and your surroundings in the water.
BEST WAY TO TRAVEL AROUND
The best type of transport and the cheapest is to rent your own bike and drive around the town yourself, it costs roughly $14 AUD per day (Make sure your travel insurance covers this).
If you don’t feel confident enough to drive yourself you can hire a Tuk-Tuk with a driver and this is roughly $25 per person for a day and the good thing about this is they know all the local spots and spots that aren’t known to many tourists.
Mostly people visit this small coastal town for the Whale sharks but there is definitely a lot more to see than just this, try the local food, visit the local markets and spend time learning the culture with the local people. I really enjoyed my time in Oslob getting to know the traditions and about the Filipino communities.
